Yoga in the Iyengar Tradition

A complete system, Yoga classes are influenced by the Iyengar tradition which begins with learning physical postures (asanas) in an orderly systematic progression. Iyengar yoga applies basic movement principles to classical yoga with an emphasis on breathe, alignment, awareness and intention of action. Postures are modified and adjusted to meet physical conditions and individual needs. Through its' variety of postures, movements and relaxation, a regular yoga practice helps you become aware and sensitive to your body in new ways. Strength, flexibility, alignment, coordination and an increased sense of welbeing are some of the benefits of a regular Yoga practice. It relieves tension and stress leaving you feeling invigorated and relaxed. Yoga is a dynamic process to discover internal movements of the body and connect every part of the body to the entire body/mind. Through a physical process, Yoga can improve concentration, help you cope with stress, increase emotional stability and overall vitality in your daily activites.

Yoga is taught in levels designed to take you through a learning process that encompasses the full scope and depth of the postures. You will be shown how to use props unique to the Iyengar method of Yoga to enable you to develop further within the poses. Gradually these postures can be linked in graceful sequences unifying the flow and rhythm of breath, energy, connectivity and the power of moving through the center of the body.

Classes

Classes are offered for every level of yoga student, in private and semiprivate( 2-4 persons) sessions in a supportive and intimate setting. Rather than imitation, you are given hands on guidance relevant to your individual body, enabling you to explore and practice yoga safely, more effectively, and with enjoyment.
For those with specific concerns such a asthma, muscular and joint discomfort (back, shoulder, sciatica, neck problems) post surgical recovery and other physical challenges, the therapeutic yoga class may be more suitable to your specific needs.
